New Book, People Who Raised Me Beyond, Describes Academic Accomplishments of Dr. Kristin Rytter, Despite Significant Disabilities

Round Lake, IL (PRWEB) December 22, 2010

Don Johnston Incorporated, the assistive technology developer of literacy software and accommodations for persons with disabilities, celebrates a new book, People Who Raised Me Beyond, written by Dr. Kristin Rytter. Rytter who has lived with quadriplegia since birth was thought to be unteachable. In 2007, she became the first person to receive a PhD in Developmental Psychology from the University of Washington.

People Who Raised Me Beyond describes Rytters life and academic accomplishments despite living with cerebral palsy and no speech. Readers will appreciate her determination through the love of family, guidance from teachers and the use of an assistive technology writing tool, called Co:Writer which became Rytters voice. She used the tool to write presentations on a MacBook Pro with a Morse code interface. In 2006, she defended her doctoral dissertation to improve the pre-literacy experiences of toddlers with motor and speech impairments through intervention.

Ruth Ziolkowski, president of Don Johnston and publisher of Co:Writer said, Kristin proves to the world that high expectations are essential for people with disabilities. Her book will help us to better understand the barriers and obstacles that people with disabilities face. Through her spirit, the support of family and teachers, and writing accommodations she was able to reach the highest academic degree, start a career and self-publish her first book.

Co:Writer acts like a personal writing assistant and uses FlexSpell technology to accurately predict words. The software is beneficial for persons who have poor motor skills who often experience fatigue when keyboarding. It is also useful for poor spellers or people with writing disorders, such as dysgraphia. Users can select words with a mouse, keyboard or switch and set accessibility features such as alternate keyboard input options, rate of speech and voices for text-to-speech output. The writing accommodation includes hundreds of K-12 curriculum dictionaries and postsecondary vocabulary.

Co:Writer helped me express my thoughts and speed up the writing process, said Dr. Rytter. Without this tool, Im not sure how I would have completed my coursework and my book. I hope that more people will hear my message that we shouldnt just write off individuals with disabilities and that they can achieve great results, just like I did.

November, 29, 2010 marked the 35th anniversary of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act that supports high expectations for students with disabilities.Every educator has a responsibility to embrace Kristens story and to help all children reach their optimum learning potential, said Ruth Ziolkowski. Dr. Rytter is an inspiration to all of us!

Author Presents Enlightening, Analytical Interpretation of the Book of Revelation

Belleville, Ontario (PRWEB) October 07, 2011

In her new book Apocalyptic Tremors: Study the Revelation Like Never Before (published by WestBow Press) C.R. Chapman investigates the Book of Revelation as an end time prophecy and, through the use of numerous examples and references, presents readers with meaningful and scriptural understanding of the many signs and symbolisms in this ancient holy text.

For nearly 2,000 years, readers of the Bible have considered, analyzed and interpreted the meaning of the final book in the New Testament, the Book of Revelation. The sheer number of views on this book is baffling, but one of the most prevalent interpretations of the Book of Revelation is that it is a prophetic warning of apocalyptic days of Gods judgment. Many of the warnings and events are in the form of symbolism which Chapman has methodically and diligently examined in Apocalyptic Tremors.

The most exclusive and distinctive symbol to Apocalyptic Tremors is the Harvest Rapture which reflects ancient past and mirrors tomorrows future hope. Chapman asserts the Harvest Rapture is essential to correctly understanding end times.

Apocalyptic Tremors, complete with many charts, graphs and diagrams, presents a detailed analysis of the Book of Revelation for anyone including students and teachers, groups and individuals seeking understanding, end time purpose, and hope in the Apocalypse.

About the Author

Carolyn Chapman has taught in many different schools, both Christian and secular, and has experience preaching and teaching in churches and a Bible school. She spent two years in Newfoundland as a child evangelist, and she taught Bible and English classes in Kenya. Chapman graduated from Peterborough Teachers College and earned her masters degree from a theological seminary in the U.S. She and her husband, Gordon, enjoy playing golf together.

New Book Helps Athletes Move Past Performance Problems

Amherst, MA (PRWEB) September 07, 2011

This book introduces the concept of sports traumatic stress disorder, which the authors claim cause most significant performance problems for athletes. Sports traumas such as injuries, humiliation and failures keep athletes from achieving optimal potential. Case histories, including New York Mets catcher Mackey Sasser and a college pitcher, offer real-world evidence of their breakthrough theories. Athletes who sustain physical and psychological injuries unconsciously accumulate them over time until they reach a critical mass, eventually forming the invisible seeds for repetitive performance difficulties, the authors write.

"This is Your Brain on Sports" does more than just point out the issue. The authors unveil their Brainspotting Sports Performance System, which they say, quickly finds, releases and resolves the sports traumas athletes hold in their brain and body, leading to performance anxiety and blocks. Unlike traditional sports therapy, the authors recognize that athletes are vulnerable to physical and emotional trauma their problems are not necessarily under conscious control. Instead of treating troubled athletes with talk therapy, they use techniques that include eye position to find where the brain is holding the problem to release the traumas present effects. By processing past traumas, athletes can overcome them and return to peak performance.

New Book Reveals Human Toll on Nearby Neighborhood After 9-11 Attack

Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 07, 2011

Moving to the shadow of Ground Zero in the Financial District in New York City in the wake of the terrorist attacks of 9-11 opened the eyes of the author, who has seen firsthand how her community struggled. She and her husband lived in the closest residential building open for re-occupation since the attack, the most devastating on U.S. soil. In this new book, the author focuses on the perseverance of a community facing uncertainty with cleanup and demolition of contaminated buildings and a reconstruction project lasting a decade.

Review We assume we know what happened at Ground Zero on September 11, 2001; the towers fall, office workers leaping from high windows. The aftershocks would emanate as far as Baghdad and Kabul. Much has been written about these world-shaking events, but Susan Fox focuses her compassionate pen on an overlooked part of the story: the lives of the people in the affected downtown New York neighborhood. As the Dust Settles well fulfills the promise of its subtitle: Finding Life At Ground Zero. From horror to recovery, Susan allows us to know her communityoffice workers, bartenders, shopkeepers, priests, residents and morewho come together to heal a scar. You will be inspired by this story of hope and resilience.

James Bradley, author of Flags of our Fathers, Flyboys and The Imperial Cruise.

As the Dust Settles presents a previously unexplored aspect of the attacks devastation and a communitys response to it. Chapters detailing everything from artists and residents near Ground Zero to affected businesses and corporate workers. During her research, the author interviewed more than 130 people who live, work or are otherwise associated with Ground Zero; the book features 35 of these sessions, told in the subjects own compelling words.

Fox describes experiencing the first anniversary of the attack and seeing the emotion of the doorman in her building, which was essentially below the South Tower of the World Trade Center, and hearing the name of one of her first students read from the list of the dead. Black and white photographs provide a haunting glimpse into the neighborhood shattered by the attack, as well artists response to the event. This honest documentation of a neighborhoods struggle to rebuild adds a needed voice to the tragedy of 9-11.

This is the first book for author Susan Fox, who received her MA in philosophy and Ph.D. in comparative literature from Binghamton University in New York. Fox lived in the Financial District from August 2002 to November 2006. She teaches at the Corcoran College of Art & Design and lives in Washington, D.C., with her husband and son.

New Book Provides Compelling Discussion on Gods Relevance to Modern Society

Broomfield, Co (PRWEB) September 08, 2011

Believers face three obstacles in modern society: None of the worlds major religions appeal to many in the Western world, science has made believing in God more difficult, and history doesnt show a trend toward justice and compassion as war and suffering still exist, according to the author. The capacity of science to explain the world around us makes it harder and harder to accept the traditional conception of God that is described in Genesis, Correia writes in this new book. In particular, it makes it difficult to accept the idea that we live in a universe that is controlled by a divine hand.

The author himself, who was raised in a conservative Protestant church, has experienced conflict of disappointment in organized religion paired with an inability to think of the universe without God. In The Uncertain Believer, Correia explores the ways people think about God or reject Him. Chapters cover such topics as the God of the Bible, the God of love, whether God created the universe and whether God exists at all. He provides food for thought on whether there is a conception of God that makes sense for modern times. Correias answer is a resounding yes. If readers can reconsider their childhood assumptions and come to terms with the idea of a loving God, that can help guide them to lives filled with strength, wisdom and peace.

Author Edward Correia served as special counsel to President Bill Clinton for civil rights, acting as a senior legal adviser on civil rights laws and constitutional issues. Clinton appointed Correia to the National Council on Disability. He was a professor of law at Northeastern University. The author is an adjunct professor at American Universitys Washington College of Law and serves on the Board of Directors of the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.
