Fashion Students From FIDM Share Their Halloween Costume Ideas

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 27, 2011

At a college where real thought goes into what to wear to school each day, creative ideas are brewing. On the downtown Los Angeles campus, future fashion and costume designers, merchandisers, and product developers are getting ready to compete at the annual Halloween Carnival, where the outfits are always inspiring.

Fashion Design major Jason Alvarez and friend Ivan Gil, will not be playing it safe. Alvarez has been sewing pelts on his faux rabbit fur cape for some weeks now. As a Gothic Indian, hell be swathed in all blackleather, metal, fur, feathers, and fabricin a costume inspired by Alexander McQueen. Gil has two fabulous looks in mind: hell use bright colors and face paint to go tribal for his African-inspired day costume.

Julianna Erno-Pearce plans to channel her favorite Victorias Secret angel, Adriana Lima. Merchandise Marketing major Kaylyn Roberts is putting together black shorts, sparkly bra, and pink cupcakes and making it work as her celebrity fave Katy Perry. And Diamond Cornelioun will be a naughty SWAT team girl in black fishnets, stilettos, and a pair of black rompers she found online.

Some students are turning to literary figures and TV for inspiration. Visual Communications major Kimberly Todd cant wait to be Disneys classic Tinkerbell: glittery green fabric, little flats with white pompoms, and wings are in the works. Willy Wonka fan Shalyn Jones is gathering the details for her Wonka costume, complete with an oversized handsewn wonka chocolate bar hanging out of her back pocket. And Madison Briede is surfing websites like ebay and etsy for period accessories to complete her authentic Pan Am stewardess look.

On the fashion colleges downtown campus, students can research their ideas at the largest fashion library on the West Coast. In addition to vintage fashion magazines and books, the library has a classic movie collection for checking historic detail. The FIDM Museum & Galleries, on the downtown campus, presents annual exhibitions of the best costume designs from movies and television for students and the public to draw inspiration.

With four dynamic California campuses, FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising is the premier west coast fashion design school, educating for careers in fashion, graphic design, interior design, and entertainment. Local Alums Give Miami College Students a Break on Textbooks at TheBookPost.com

Miami, FL (PRWEB) August 24, 2007

Students of FIU have long been at the mercy of local/campus textbook retailers, having to face high prices at the beginning of the semester, and low buy-back offers at the end. But Patricia and Roberto Espinoza are working to change that. Their free service, http://www.thebookpost.com, available to FIU and other regional students, offers a bulletin board format that allows users to browse textbooks for sale by fellow students, or to post their used texts for others to purchase.

Interested students exchange information via email or phone, and deal directly with one another. The service is free to use, and the student-to-student format avoids the need for shipping costs or retail markups, making it the best textbook deal available in the FIU area.

Rene, an FIU student who has used the service, raved that "I found the book I needed cheap and got it the same day;" while classmate Elisa A. noted that she sold her book within two days. Connecting students with each other not only avoids lines and frustration at the local textbook stores, but also tends to build community in the area. The service isn't limited to FIU students, though, as all Miami area students are welcome to post and purchase.

"We wanted to create this website for students to get a break on their textbook budget, this is our way to support students at our Alma Mater and those in the rest of colleges in Miami," notes Patricia. Both her and husband Roberto are alumni of FIU, and currently run CPC Computer Consultants, Inc., in Miami.

CPC Computer Consultants is a full-service web hosting, web design and e-commerce provider, and specializes in serving individuals and small businesses locally. TheBookPost.com was developed and is hosted via CPCCCI.com.

TheBookPost.com offers a user-friendly format, along with secure login and quick downloads. The majority of the book listings include a list price, asking price and even a photo. Returning FIU and area students are urged to check http://www.TheBookPost.com before laying out hundreds of dollars at local textbook retailers this fall.

Twitter Tool, CheapTweet, Helps Students and Parents Save Money When Going Back-to-School

Austin, TX (PRWEB) August 10, 2009

CheapTweet, a Twitter-based deals search engine, is busy gearing up for the upcoming back-to-school season. Today marks one month out from the beginning of the school year and now is the time when parents are planning back-to-school budgets and searching for ways to get the best bang for their buck.

Compared to years past, consumers are faced with countless e-commerce channels when shopping for everything from backpacks and school supplies to classroom textbooks. At the same time, consumers are also tightening budgets as found in a recent Deloitte & Touche LLP survey. This year, sixty-four percent of consumers plan to spend less on back-to-school items; therefore, parents and students are turning to CheapTweet to cut through the clutter and find the most valuable back-to-school deals available online.

"CheapTweet's service is extremely helpful for consumers looking to save money shopping online and at local stores. A recent 'back-to-school' search on their site listed a variety of links to coupons and savings including an offer for $ 10 backpacks at The Children's Place & Target," said Gina Traversi, a CheapTweet user based in North Carolina. "In an economy where every penny counts, CheapTweet provides a wonderful service to help moms like me save money for back-to-school."

CheapTweet scans Twitter for the best deals, coupons and sales that people are tweeting about. Deals are then rated by users and delivered via the Internet and Twitter, so shoppers are able to find the best deals catered to their needs. With big brands signing up to partner with CheapTweet, like Overstock.com and PerpetualKid.com, CheapTweet has established itself as a leader in the increasing phenomenon of consumers using Twitter as a money-saving tool.

"CheapTweet's unique approach of harnessing the conversation on Twitter means we find the great deals people are talking about," said Hayes Davis, Co-Founder of CheapTweet. "Regardless of the economy, kids still have to go back to school and it's a significant cost and effort for parents. CheapTweet helps stretch their dollars further in a budget conscious time."
